“It was, as I have said, a fine autumnal day; the sky was clear and serene, and nature wore that rich and golden livery which we always associate with the idea of abundance.” – Washington Irving, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Though warm weather lingers during the day in Santa Claus, Indiana, I sense a certain crispness in the morning air that hints at the coming of fall. Like many people, I eagerly anticipate those cool days, crunchy leaves, and the homey smell of a chimney fire in the evening. And with October only a few weeks away, one of my favorite programs is also right around the corner. Storyteller Susan Fowler will be back for our All Hallows’ Eve event on Saturday, October 25, 2014. At 7:00 PM CT, she will hold her lantern-lit reading of Washington Irving’s classic ghost story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, in the historic Santa Claus Church. As those of you who have attended in the past remember, beware the Headless Horseman! He’ll be making a visit at the end of the story.

In addition to All Hallows’ Eve, we are also hosting a new event this year. Santa’s Haunted Church will be held on Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25, 2014. This family-friendly event will take you on a spooky tour of the Santa Claus Museum & Village. Guided tours will begin at the Original Santa Claus Post Office, wander past the giant Santa Claus Statue (and a haunted cemetery!) and wrap-up with a ghostly tour through the Santa Claus Church. Delicious soups and stews will be available for purchase, as will some of your fall favorites from the Santa Claus Museum Cookbook. This event is sponsored in partnership with Team H-A-P-P-Y of Relay for Life and all proceeds go to a great cause.
